Haiti Relief

Dear Community Members:

We are all aware of the devastation that has happened in Haiti. Here at Antioch Christian Church we are dedicated to serving God and fulfilling the mission of the church. Our mission is to share the Gospel of Christ as far and as wide as we can. We want others to see Christ in us as we serve the world around us.

Haitian womanTo fulfill this mission we support national and international ministries. One of our international ministries is Voice in the Wilderness (www.sharingjesus.org). A Voice in the Wilderness is a nonprofit ministry that exists to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world. Since 1994 we have been involved in a number of missionary and evangelistic efforts in the United States and in Haiti. Beginning in 1995, this ministry has been instrumental in expanding and maintaining a children's feeding program and primary school for disadvantaged students in Carre four Feuilles, Haiti (a suburb of Port-au-Prince). Because of people like you hundreds of children are fed each day, hundreds have heard the Gospel and hundreds more have received a basic education free of charge. Thousands of Gospel tracts and Bibles have been distributed, and a multitude of lives have been touched and changed by the power of God. We can not thank those enough who have helped to make this ministry possible.

We, here at ACC, have a personal connection with Voice in the Wilderness as it had its inception during one of our August revivals. Voice of the Wilderness and Pastor Jerome (a Haitian pastor) has been one of our ministries of support through the years. Pastor Jerome’s church, his apartment and the primary school were destroyed. He and his wife also lost one of their boys in this tragic event. Because of this connection to the Haiti community and because of our unwavering love for all of God’s people we have been led to ask you to help us meet some of the needs of these people. There are three ways in which you can help.

First and foremost—PRAY
We are asking you to pray daily for the Haitians and their needs. So many have been praying and we are seeing those prayers answered. This recovery process is going to go on for some time and we ask that you continue your prayers for Haiti. (NEEDS: water, food, clothing, medical supplies and care) I Thessalonians 5:17 says we are to pray without ceasing. In that same chapter Paul says we are to build one another up which is what we are asking of you in the next two helpful ways.

Second—FINANCIAL AID
Contributions can be processed through Antioch Christian Church by making your checks payable to us. In the “memo” on your checks write Haiti Relief. If you would like you may visit the Voice of the Wilderness website mentioned above and send your financial contributions (directly?) to them. If you would like to make your checks out to them and send it to us we would be more that happy to see that they receive those helpful donations.

Third—COLLECTION Of NEEDED ITEMS FOR THE HAITIANS
We are collecting items to fill a container which will be sent to Haiti to help to meet their current needs. Our time line is to have the container filled and ready for shipment the first of May 2010. We would like to have all donations collected by May 3. We appreciate support from both individuals and businesses. The items will be stored in a warehouse until shipment. For assistance with either pick up or delivery to this site, please contact Pastor Jeff at (706)769-6884 or by cell at (706)206-5062. Remember all donations are tax deductible. Be sure to keep your receipts. Any numbers of items are appreciated. Enclosed is a list of items that are being requested specific to the current needs. Good and clean items both new and lightly used are appreciated. Carefully considering the condition of the items is much appreciated.

Thank you for your support whether it be through prayer, contributions or collecting needed items.  All support is appreciated no matter how large or how small.

In Christ,

Jeff Wilkes
